Melissa
June is a phenomenal vocalist, excellent lyricist and songwriter. Born in
Illinois and raised in Minnesota, She learned very young about the passion of
music. In the beginning of her musical journey her love was guitar, which she
started to learn around the age of four. While in Elementary School she was
offered to have her guitar lessons counted as college credit, but was
ultimately denied, because she was so young. When she started singing, she had
found her true passion. Melissa started singing in church choir at the age of 9
and has been singing ever since. A member of choir through out middle school
and high school, Melissa was like no other vocalist.
Melissa
attended Music Tech, (now known as McNally Smith College of Music) where she
earned an Applied Associates Degree in Music Performance. Still striving to be
better after college, she went to jams around the twin cities seeking out every
open ear. She had her first show in 2003 at Shaws, and very quickly found out
how much work it was to put a band together, especially when you are a very
fresh and new artist. She decided to take some time to widen her network of
musicians and further strengthen her craft. The next year, she booked another
show. From there, Melissa just kept going. She learned along the way, made many
friends, and continued to better herself, and in the process, Melissa June
started to pursue her professional career.
After
starting the Melissa June band in the beginning of 2004, The Melissa June Band
performed at various locations around the twin cities area playing cover songs
until October 2005. Booking all of her bands shows, creating flyers, mailing
lists, a web site, and advertising to build her fan base, Melissa was
constantly busy working on some aspect of her career. She sang publicly almost nightly,
if it wasn't with her band, she was somewhere sitting in with another band.
Included
in the venues Melissa June frequently performed are Arnellias, Blue Fox, Brown
Derby, Deans, Bunkers, Decoys, Dixies on Grand, Famous Dave's, Floyd's Bar,
Legends, Minnesota Music Café, Narrows Saloon, Rockin' Lobster, The Breakaway,
The Poodle Club, The Triangle, The Viking Bar, and Whiskey Junction,as well as
many others.
Melissa
has sang and performed with such artists as Bruce Henrys gospel group, Markiss
and the Glorious Vagabonds, the Rebekka Fisher band, Barbara LeShoure, and
Deevo, as well as many other top artists around the twin cities. She also sang
background vocals for the group Conrtist on their album, Entrapment.
After
nearly 3 years Melissa decided not to book any more shows for the band. She
wanted to focus on writing original material. In July of 2006, Melissa took a
trip to reunite with Mauryce "Big Mo" Owens, who she met as an
engineering student at Music Tech. Melissa was rejuvenated. Surrounded by other
creative artists, her energy was alive as ever. Melissa moved to Baltimore, MD
in Oct 2006.
While
living in Baltimore, Melissa continued to focus her creative energy on writing
songs. She also sang background vocals on other artists albums such as Miserys
Child and Corey Peterkin.
At
the end of 2007 Melissa moved to Atlanta Georgia to take advantage of numerous
opportunities to further her career.
